Weight Gain Pregnancy

I have a close friend who had her first born child was born in late November. She loved the fact that she could eat holiday treats and still lose weight. About six weeks after the birth that she noticed that she wasn’t losing weight anymore, but instead was starting to gain it back. She had gained over 50 pounds during her pregnancy.
Her ob/gyn doctor told her that she needed to lose some of the pregnancy weight. Her doctor gave her the general advice of eat more nutritious healthy food. You can’t really fault the doctor; she was trained in obstetrics and gynecology not in nutrition and fitness.
Weight gain during pregnancy is not the best measure that a pregnant mom should use to figure out if she is eating healthy or not. It is possible to keep your weight gain down, and still eat some of the wrong kinds of foods that will not give your baby the vital nutrients it needs to grow.
Her frustration as well as my own is finding good, accurate and safe nutritional information for pregnant woman. Dieting during pregnancy is both bad for mom and the developing baby. Please, don’t starve your baby of the vital nutrients and protein that your baby needs to grow into a healthy full term baby.
I have been searching for sound nutritional advice for an expecting mom for quite some time and have finally found a reliable source, Fit and Healthy Pregnancy. This is really good for me since I am expecting my next child. I want to have a healthy, fun, active pregnancy and give this little bundle of joy the best chance at a healthy life.
The book answers many of the nutrition questions that I have, like:
- How much weight SHOULD I gain?
- What can I do to look toned and fit all the way through my pregnancy?
- How can I avoid gaining weight all over?
- What kind of pregnancy diet is optimal for my growing baby?
- How can I control my food cravings?
- What foods can I grab for quick, on-the-go snacks?
- How can I fit healthy foods and pregnancy exercise into my already hectic days?
- What should I be doing now to speed up my weight loss afterwards?
- I don’t want to gain weight all over, just the bump in front.
Stretch marks
I was able to not get stretch marks on my belly with my other pregnancies. I did get them on sides of my thighs. Now that I am older I was terrified that I would get horrible stretch marks all over my belly and thighs.
My girl friend got them all over her belly with each pregnancy. She has stretch marks over stretch marks. Doctor’s keep telling her and every other woman that they will fade away over time. Uh, yeah right. I still have a few deep stretch marks on my thigh from my first pregnancy and that has been years ago!
I knew that a healthy, modest weight gain of 20-25 pounds, combined with a sound pre and post natal exercise program, would ensure that I gain the weight slowly and lose it quickly. This puts less stress on my skin and greatly reduces the chance of getting stretch marks.
A holistic pregnancy nutrition plan will keep your skin (the largest organ of your body) healthy and resistant to developing stretch marks.
I did some research online and in the book store. But what I found was either too superficial and vague or medical journal papers filled with medical jargon. What I wanted was a practical pregnancy guide that works. A guide that was thorough yet simple to understand. One that could tell me everything I needed to know, in an easy to follow format.
- How to avoid gaining weight in all the wrong places – let’s keep the bump in FRONT
- Good, Better and Best options for every budget and lifestyle (and those impossibly hectic days)
- How to safely strengthen your core muscles even with your growing belly
- The 3 “secret” muscles need to be stretched for pregnant women
- “The Naked Workout” – How to stay fit with little or no exercise equipment
- How to breeze through labor and delivery
- How to cook and plan meals for your growing family, even with a full time job
- How to maximize your intake of vitamins and minerals from food
- Key nutrients to elevate your mood and reduce food cravings
I am so glad that I found this incredible pregnancy fitness and nutrition guide.
