Morning sickness… it sucks! That sick to your stomach feeling that just won’t go away. After a couple of weeks of the morning sickness, you might wonder if there’s any hope for you.

Some of my friends are lucky and it only lasts for a couple of weeks and then they got to enjoy their pregnancy. Not me. When I was pregnant with my first child, I was nauseous and sick to my stomach the whole pregnancy. Every day I was waiting for the shoe to drop and the vomiting to hit – HARD.

I swapped cars with my dear husband. He drove my car and I drove his truck. It was easier for me to hang my head out of the window when I needed to throw up.

The pregnancy was more of a nightmare than a joy for me. This isn’t the way it should be. You should be enjoying this wonderful time of growing your baby and feeling it move around inside of you.

The problem is that most of the conventional remedies don’t work. Prescription medications have potential side effects that can harm your baby. Remember the Thalidomide disaster back in the 1950’s. I don’t want to risk my baby’s health on potentially unsafe medications, do you?

Are you with me? Here, let me show you how morning sickness freedom was discovered by a mom, Mary Kisney, just like us who suffered with morning sickness through her whole pregnancy.

We are not alone in truly despising morning sickness. Mary Kisney had such a rough time with her first pregnancy that when she got pregnant with her second child she was terrified of the morning sickness that was sure to come again.

Before the morning sickness struck, she learned all she could on how to minimize its affects. By the time she was six weeks pregnant she had a plan for dealing with it. Which was a good thing. Because right on schedule her morning sickness started… with a vengeance. She started to do what she learned and was surprised with the results…

The morning sickness went away!

What I Like About The Morning Sickness Freedom remedy

Obviously, the best part about this remedy is the fact that it does not require the use of over the counter or prescription medication.

The tapping technique can be done at any time and any where you start to feel green about the gills. This method is so powerful that it can stop the queasy nearly right away. Cool, huh?

Addressing the root cause of the morning sickness instead of just treating the symptom.

According to doctors pregnancy is a condition that needs to be treated. You and I know that is a bunch of bull. Pregnancy is a normal, natural event that women get to exclusively do. Although, sometimes I wish my husband could ‘enjoy’ the back aches, bloated, hormone swings and waddling.

Pregnancy needs to be seen holistically. It is physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual. Sometimes feeling green about the gills is triggered by emotional issues manifesting themselves as physical problems.

What I Don’t Like About Morning Sickness Freedom remedy

There is only one thing that I don’t like about the program, some of the common remedies don’t work for women who are gestational diabetics, like myself. I can’t have a glass of juice and saltine crackers in the morning before getting out of bed. My blood sugar will go dangerously too high.

She covers a whole bunch of other tried and true nausea relief methods that are safe for us diabetics.

Conclusion: The Morning Sickness Freedom remedy

Even if you are a gestational diabetic the remedies provided by Mary are powerful and effective. Especially the energy alignment. If you concentrate on your baby’s health and the desire to have a healthy, fun and enjoyable pregnancy the Morning Sickness Freedom will be a powerful tool in banishing morning sickness in your pregnancy.

Don’t let morning sickness rob you of your pregnancy glow!

GRADE: A

During the early pregnant stage, it thickens up and creates a mucus plug inside of the cervix

During the first trimester many women complain of feeling very dry, especially during the first four to six weeks, right after the implantation bleeding. Once the baby has implanted itself into the uterus, your body will begin to create a mucus plug on the inside of your cervix. The purpose of the mucus plug is to seal off the inside of the uterus so that no bacteria or germs can get at your baby.

Typically at the end of the first trimester the vaginal discharge begins to increase, especially when the 'mood' strikes. When you are in the mood your body increases the amount of lubricants and mucus in your vagina. A dry vagina does not make for a good nookie time.

Most women find that vaginal discharge increases when they are pregnant – this is quite normal and happens for a few reasons. During pregnancy the cervix, neck of the uterus (womb) and vaginal walls get softer. Vaginal discharge increases to help prevent any infections traveling up from the vagina to the uterus.

In the third trimester expect more mucus, enough to make your panties wet. Your body is preparing for birth where you will need lots of slippery mucus to help your baby pass through the vagina.

Around the last month of pregnancy you will pass your mucus plug as your cervix begins to thin and dilate. First time moms will most likely pass their mucus plug in the last week of their pregnancy. Second, third or fourth time pregnancy will pass their mucus plug a little sooner. After second and on pregnancy the cervix is much more stretchy and will usually being to efface and dilate a little sooner. This is perfectly normal.

I know of several friends who were 80% effaced and two to three cm dilated for four to five weeks before they went into labor. It is not a sign of when you will go into labor, as much as it is a sign that your body is preparing to go into labor.

Passing Of The Mucus Plug

When the mucus plug passes your vaginal discharge will contain thick streaks of mucus. Accompanying may be a few thin streaks of blood. The amount of blood should be very little and look more like faint spotting. If you have considerable blood coming out of your vagina, contact your midwife or doctor as this is not normal.

I am early pregnant about six weeks and the hip pain and groin pain is awful. It comes and goes. What is causing it?

Abdominal pain, hip and groin pain during pregnancy is all too common. As is an increased vaginal discharge. Most often it is caused by round ligament pain. These pains are the due to normal changes of pregnancy that your body is going through.

Round Ligament Pain Causes

Round ligament pain refers to the type of abdominal and pelvic pain caused by the round ligaments being stretched and pulled.

Female pelvis and its contents, seen from above and in front. Click to see a larger image.

The uterus normally is the size of a small pear. It is supported by a thick net of ligaments. These ligaments attach to the pelvis and lower back. As the uterus grows and changes shape the ligaments are stretched into long thin ligaments, kind of like stretching a rubber band.

As the uterus grows during pregnancy, the ligaments pull on the pelvis and lower back causing pain. Even though round ligament pain is uncomfortable, it is a normal part of pregnancy.

Most of the ligament pain is caused by involuntary spasms of the ligaments. The spasms occur more on the right side than the left due to the uterus’s natural tendency to turn to the right during pregnancy.

Exercise can trigger the pain. Simply changing positions like standing up.

Round Ligament Pain Solutions

Gently massage / rub pelvic area

See your chiropractor for an alignment. With all of the changes in your body during pregnancy your back is getting pulled out of alignment. Getting your back adjusted is perfectly safe during pregnancy.

Soaking in a warm bath. But remember not to get the bath water over 102 degrees as it will over heat the baby and can cause developmental problems with your baby.

Change how you get up, how quickly you rise from a sitting or lying down position. Rising or sitting down more gradually and avoiding sudden movements may decrease the ligament spasms.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken to reduce the pain and discomfort. The less medicine you take during your pregnancy the better it is for your growing baby.

Not every woman will suffer from round ligament pain. When you are pregnant your body goes through a lot of physical and hormonal changes. The thick uterine ligaments are stretched thin. The relaxin hormone causes all of the ligaments in your body to relax which is what give women in their third trimester the classic pregnancy waddle when they walk. These changes are natural and unavoidable.

How many times have I heard women say that that Kegel exercise don’t work in strengthening their pelvic floor muscles? Way too often. Just about every woman tells me that they do Kegels daily but their pelvic muscles are not getting stronger.

It is not that Kegel exercises do not work. Kegels do work. The problem is that most women do not really know how to do Kegels properly so they do them incorrectly. Once a woman learns how to do Kegels the correct way, the results can be dramatic.

To find the right muscles to train, lie down on your bed. Insert two fingers into your vagina. Contract your pelvic floor muscles like you are trying to stop the flow of urine when you are urinating. As you tighten the pelvic floor muscles you will feel some pressure on your fingers. It is ok if at this time you only feel a little pressure because the muscles are pretty weak. You should not be tightening your butt or stomach when you are tightening your PC muscles.

The best way to do a Kegel exercise is to start from a relaxed muscle to gradually tighten it. Count to four while holding the muscle at full contraction. Then slowly relax the pelvic floor muscle while counting to four.

Start out doing a set of twenty three times a day. Gradually work your way up to doing fifty three times a day. This may seem a lot but breaking it up into smaller chunks throughout the day will make it not so big of a deal.

You can do Kegels at just about any time without anyone noticing what you are doing. Work out while driving, waiting at a stop light, waiting to pick up your kids from school and waiting in line at the local store.

Do Kegel exercises daily and over a period of eight to twelve weeks you will start to see the pelvic floor muscles become stronger. If you have been experiencing urinary incontinence or the early stages of uterine prolapse you will begin to notice an improvement. Keep up the good work!

Kegels are even more important pregnancy exercise where it helps build up the flexibility of your pelvic floor muscles. This is extremely important so that your bottom can easily stretch enough to allow your baby to pass through without tearing. Yes, it is possible to give birth to a baby and not have any tears in your vagina.

Kegel exercises are meant to be done for your whole life. To build up and maintain a healthy pelvic floor muscles. Add them to your daily work out routine.

Have you noticed how many different vitamins and supplements are available at your local grocery, corner pharmacy or discount mass retailer store? It used to be that the only way a pregnant woman could get a prenatal vitamin was with a doctor’s prescription. Now days, you can just walk up to the vitamin / supplement’s shelf and take your pick from several bottles.

Aren’t All Prenatal Vitamins The Same?

No, they are not. Why? The first thing you need to realize is that prenatal vitamins along with all supplements such as St. John’s Wart and the like are weakly regulated by the FDA.

Up until 1994, vitamins and supplements also know as “dietary supplements were subject to the same regulatory requirements as were other foods.” (Overview of Dietary Supplements – www.cfsan.fda.gov). In 1994, President Clinton signed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) that loosened the requirements for testing and marketing of dietary supplements, including prenatal vitamins.

“Under DSHEA, a firm is responsible for determining that the dietary supplements it manufactures or distributes are safe and that any representations or claims made about them are substantiated by adequate evidence to show that they are not false or misleading. This means that dietary supplements do not need approval from FDA before they are marketed.” (Overview of Dietary Supplements – www.cfsan.fda.gov).

So, it is up to the manufacture to determine if the dietary supplement contains the ingredients that are listed on the label, that they are safe to be consumed and that the ingredients do what they are advertised to do.

Problems With Prenatal And Multivitamins

1. Calcium and iron together. Here is a little known dietary secret – never eat a dairy product with a high iron food, like dark green leafy vegetables or red meat. This is because calcium easily binds with iron and produces a molecule that cannot be digested by the human body. It will go through the digestive track and be pooped out. Your body will not get any benefit from the iron or the calcium in your prenatal vitamins.

2. Poor nutritional quality. Most all prenatal vitamins contain synthetic forms of vitamins and minerals. They are easy to manufacture but are not exactly the same as the natural form of these vitamins. Your body will not absorb these synthetic vitamins as easily as those found in fresh produce. The synthetic form is harder on your liver.

3. No Omega-3 or Omega-6. Both of these supplements are necessary for healthy brain and nervous system development. These are essential fatty acids that your baby needs. If by chance a prenatal vitamin does contain these essential fatty acids, how sure are you of the source of them? Are they free from harmful heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and other environmental toxins?

Fish is high in omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. From which fish did the vitamin manufacture get these fatty acids? Depending on the species of fish and geographic location where the fish were caught, they may be filled with toxic heavy metals that will cause severe complications in your baby’s development.

4. Most prenatal vitamins potency is inadequate, that is not strong enough for mom and baby. Don’t expect a prenatal vitamin to supply ALL of the nutritional needs of you and your baby. How, can one little pill give you everything you need? It cannot. A prenatal vitamin is a good aid, but it is not a replacement for eating a well balanced diet of fresh vegetables, fruit, diary and healthy carbohydrates.

It is still a good nutritional practice to take your prenatal vitamin each day. However, the best pregnancy nutrition to eat fresh and natural foods. They are the best source of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and protein that your developing baby needs.

Most women experience the common early pregnancy symptoms that all point to pregnancy. By a week after having missed their period it become really obvious that she is pregnant.

Decreased or no Libido

Hip and groin pain

For a few moms to be, they don’t have any of the early pregnancy signs. My midwife tells a story of a client of hers who had a baby with the midwife. The mom breast feed the baby exclusively at first and then transitioned the baby to solid food and continued breastfeeding as well. When the baby was about a year old the mom came to the midwife and said that her belly was growing but she did not know why. Well, it turns out that she was five months pregnant!

The mom was shocked and surprised. Yet, the mom did not have any of the early pregnancy signs she did not have any odd pregnancy signs either.

Dangerous early pregnancy signs

Here is a list of dangerous signs that may indicate that you are at risk of losing your pregnancy. If you start to experience any of these dangerous early pregnancy warning signs call your midwife or doctor immediately.

Hard Cramping Or Contractions
The only time hard cramping is a good thing is late in your ninth month when it is time for the baby to be born. Anytime before that it is a sign that either you are dehydrated or are starting to miscarry. Lay down on your left side, drink plenty of water. If you are dehydrated, drinking the water will slow down the contractions and they will eventually top.

Vaginal Bleeding
Vaginal bleeding is always a sign of problems during pregnancy. A little implantation spotting is normal. A little light spotting after sexual intercourse is possible if the cervix was bumped. It is always best to check with your doctor or midwife.

Heavy bleeding especially with cramping or contractions is a warning sign that something is wrong. Seek medical help at the nearest hospital.

Even during labor a woman should not be bleeding heavily. Some light spotting during labor is normal as the cervix is stretching, also known as bloody show. Heavy bleeding during labor, before the baby is born, is a sign that something is going wrong with the mother and baby, such as placenta abruption which is life threatening for both mother and child.

Yeast Infection
A vaginal yeast infection, if left untreated could cause preterm labor. As soon as you notice itching, burning, mucus that looks like cottage cheese or foul smelling vaginal discharge call you healthcare provider. If it is a yeast infection treat it with Monostat-7 or the generic equivalent medicine.

Why not use the one day treatment to knock out the yeast infection instead of dealing with the mess for a week? During pregnancy your immune system is suppressed so that the baby can grow safely in your womb. Depending on how severe your yeast infection is your body will need the seven day treatment to completely knock out the vaginal yeast infection.

Sharp Pain On One Side – Ectopic
Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that is outside of the uterus. Most ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tube. The fertilized egg is supposed to float down the fallopian tube and then implant itself into the uterus, but it doesn’t make it. Instead it gets stuck and begins to grow. The fallopian tube is not designed to carry a baby to term.

Ectopic or tubal pregnancy usually does not cause the mom to have the same early pregnancy signs. The hGC hormone level increases much more slowly so that mom doesn’t experience morning sickness, tender breasts, no implantation cramping, nothing.

The sharp pain that you feel one side of your abdomen is blood pooling in the abdomen. As the blood collects in the abdomen, where is should not be, it begins to irritate the colon and intestines causing them to slow down and not work very well. If you were trying to get pregnant or had unprotected sexual intercourse, constipation is an early pregnancy sign. So one would naturally think that ok, she is pregnant.

What is happening is that the mom is bleeding internally. Either from the end of the fallopian tube or the tube has ruptured possibly tearing open the uterine artery. At this point she has hours at best to live unless she gets immediate surgery to stop the bleeding.

It Is A Lose.

After the surgery and mom wakes up from the aesthesia she is going to grieve the loss of her baby. Even though she never has the chance to see or hold the baby, she will be attached to the child.

Husband / boyfriend, be gentle with her, she is hurting both physically and emotionally. Be there for her. Let her cry. She will recount the same feelings, stories and emotions. That is ok. Let her. She needs to.

From all of the moms that I have spoken with that have had either an ectopic or miscarriage, it took them about two months for the emotional pain to subside.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or odd signs of early pregnancy talk to your midwife or doctor quickly.

Doesn't that seem like a typical guy's response? We love our men, but they are always in the mood. My husband is ready all of the time.

Beginning pregnant does some weird things to a woman's libido. When a pregnant woman is in the mood, she is in the mood right now and the mood can leave as quickly as it comes. When the mood hits, I want him now! Please be careful of my very sensitive pregnant breasts.

I came across a recent news article on MSNBC.com where the author claims that having sex reduced her stress level. After my husband read the article he suggested that I needed to medicate the stress I was feeling. The mood just wasn't there. That's pregnancy for you dear.

The author, Valerie Frankel, detailed a month long experiment that she and her husband conducted to see if love making reduced their stress levels. They first started out cuddling, holding hands, hugging and kissing. Slowly they ramped it up to full romping in bed during the day time, quickies and longies.

Each time she encountered a stressful situation such as a tight dead line, an unexpected large expense or getting the credit card bill that showed that they over spent they would 'medicate' the stress by having sex.

Interestingly enough, Valerie became hooked on the hook ups. So much so that her husband became concerned that she was becoming 'hooked' on having sex. To the point that her husband decided that she need to 'detox'.

Laura Berman, Ph.D., is the director of the Berman Center for women's sexual health in Chicago. “When a woman is stressed, the hormonal changes in her body trigger a chemical reaction causing sex hormone-binding globulin to bind with testosterone cells, so they're unavailable for libido and sexual response.”

That pretty much sums up my sex drive. I am always tired during the day. I blame it on the fact that I am cut off from coffee. My husband keeps reminding me that it is for the best as I am expecting.

I could go to bed by 9 o'clock after the kids are all tucked way for bed. But nooo… I stay up taking a bath, watching TV until 11 pm. In the mornings I am stressed getting my kids ready for school, dealing with the tattling, occasional fighting and ever so slowly getting ready for school. Trying to keep a relatively clean house before the baby arrives.

Then throw pregnancy into the mix and the sex drive gets really wacked out. Even if my husband made romantic comments when he got home from work, by the time the evening ritual has completed, I am so tired and out of it that sex isn't even on my radar. The poor guy.

Dr. Brody noted that 'self love' does not provide the same level of physical and emotional satisfaction. Physically stimulating it does not have the same effect in lowering blood pressure brought on by stress because different nerves are involved.

Valerie's article gives some very helpful advice for couples, even advice for pregnant women. That I need to consciously set time aside for romantic time with my husband, especially before the baby comes. Romantic time doesn't always have be love making time, it can be spending time cuddling or playing a Wii game together.

A c-section is physically and emotionally challenging for both mom and dad. It is especially challenging when you have been in labor for hours and your doctor comes into your room and tells you that you need a cesarean section now.

Contrary to popular belief, recovering from a c-section is a bear. Take a moment and think about it, you have gone through major surgery affecting several core muscle groups. The abdominal muscles were not cut, but the membrane that surrounds them was. Try to get out of bed without using your abdominal muscles.

Typically a mom will be hospitalized for three to four days following a c-section. On the second day the nurse will make you get up and walk. By this time the epidural or spinal block has long since worn off and you will feel the incision pain. Not only that, you will also feel your uterus contracting down, also known as after birth pains.

Studies have shown that women of get up and walk sooner after their abdominal surgery will recover more quickly. Moving around also helps your digestive tract to start working correctly again. Walking also prevents dangerous blood clots from forming in your legs.

Fortunately Your Doctor Will Prescribe Oral Pain Medication To Help You Manage The Pain.

After spending a four days in the hospital you and baby are finally allowed to go home. One of the many things that you are told is that you are only allowed to lift and carry your baby, nothing else. True be told, doctors would prefer that you didn’t carry anything heavier than two pounds. Try telling a new mom that she cannot hold or carry her new baby for the first six weeks of its life!

Now, that you are at home, what can you do to help your body heal more quickly from the surgery and pregnancy? Here are six tips to help speed your recovery.

Get plenty of rest. Well, as much as you can with a newborn in the house!

Increase your protein intake. Eat more high protein foods like almonds, cheese, cottage cheese and eggs. The additional protein is needed for repair of the surgery site.

No driving until your six week post partum check and your doctor clears you to. Driving puts a lot of stress on the core abdominal muscles. Don’t run the risk of causing internal damage to your abdomen.

Move around. The first two weeks are the hardest. Then it gets better.

Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated and prevent getting a UTI.

No sexual intercourse until after your six week post partum check up. Do be intimate with your spouse. Physical intimacy a powerful way to lower your stress levels.

If you have not yet given birth to your baby check out the many pregnancy tips available on this site.

Most women find their breasts are most sore and sensitive very early in pregnancy; in fact, for many women, sore breasts are one of the first signs that they are pregnant along with the areola darkening.

Did you think that your breasts were completely developed when you in puberty? Most women do. In reality, your breasts where only partially developed during puberty. They are completed in your first trimester.

A woman’s breasts are made up of fat, collagen, milk glands and milk ducts and blood vessels. The main purpose of breasts is to breast feed your baby.

During the first trimester your breasts are growing and developing. About 50% percent new blood vessels and milk ducks are being made during this time. Your nipples will grow and enlarge as well. Your body is preparing itself to feed your new baby. It just so happens that your husband will notice the changes occurring in your breasts also!

A woman’s breasts will continue to grow throughout the pregnancy. Fortunately the tenderness and soreness will go away by the end of the first trimester. It is very normal for a woman’s breasts to grow at least to cup sizes during pregnancy. When her milk comes in they will grow at least another cup size possibly two! After a month of breastfeeding her breasts will reduce in size a little bit.

Money Saving Tip During Pregnancy
Instead of buying a bunch of new bras at the start of your pregnancy only to latter on discover that you have out grown them again, buy a few bras. Then if you need a larger size, buy a few more bras. Once your milk has come in, which is three to four days after the birth, then determine the cup size you need and get quality nursing bras.

Some women worry that they have small and shallow nipples that they will not be able to nurse their baby. By the end of their first trimester their nipples will be much larger and will noticeably stand out. Nature almost always takes care of these things.

Nutritional Tip
Low levels of calcium, vitamin B complex and magnesium levels may increase the tenderness and soreness of your breasts. Take your prenatal vitamin every day and make sure that you are eating foods that are naturally high in calcium, magnesium and vitamin B complex.

Once you decide to stop breastfeeding and your milk supply has dried up, your cup size will go down. But, don’t expect to be able to fit in to your pre-pregnancy bras again.

Second And Third Pregnancies

Most women are surprised when they become pregnant with their second or third child that their breasts and nipples are again very tender and sore. It isn’t talked about much by health care professionals, but with every pregnancy your body will build additional blood vessels and milk ducts in your breasts.

By your third child you will have enough milk supply to nurse your baby quickly. A friend of mine complained that it took her first born daughter an hour to nurse. With her second child it took a lot less. Now with her third child, she has the capacity to fill that newborn up in a hurry. Both mother and baby are very happy about this!

Most women feel implantation cramping about seven to ten days after conception. The key is figuring out when you ovulated.

Suppose you have a fairly regular cycle about 28 to 30 days. You should be ovulating around day 14 to 16. Ovulation generally occurs half way between the start of your last menstrual period and the start of the next menstrual period. Then you should have the implantation signs around day 21 to 25.
What Is Implantation Cramping?

The egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube. Babies are conceived in the fallopian tube. Then the embryo (baby) swims down the tube to the uterus. The trip takes about seven to ten days. Once in the uterus the baby literally digs into to the lining of the uterus.

As the baby digs into the lining is will cause some spotting and a little bleeding. Not like a period. Typically you will see a little blood mixed with mucus in you panties. If you have a heavy flow like your normal period chances are that you are not pregnant. If you don’t begin to see the early pregnant signs, wait a week after the period ends and then take a pregnancy test.

Now that the baby is firmly implanted in your uterus, this is when your body ‘knows’ that there is a baby growing in you. Now your baby making machine kicks into gear. Ok, maybe that isn’t the most romantic picture of pregnancy. Your body now starts to change to support the new baby and you will begin to see the signs of early pregnancy show up in your body.

What Does Implantation Cramping Feel Like?

Implantation cramps feel like menstrual cramps, but not as strong. It is more like a pulling and stretching feeling. When the embryo is burrowing its way into the uterine wall, you uterus will spasm or cramp some.

Shortly thereafter, your uterus will begin shift from its non pregnant position (either posterior or anterior) to being straight up in your lower abdomen and becomes very firm. By the time you have missed your period and the pregnancy test shows positive your uterus is standing straight up. However, the fundus is still below the pelvic rim. It won’t be until the end of the first trimester that the fundus will rise above the pelvic rim.

Don’t be surprised that during the first trimester you feel twinges, pulling, stretching, pain on the sides of your crotch next to your leg. The source of this discomfort is your growing uterus. These symptoms will come and go throughout your pregnancy. You will feel it for a day and then it should go away. If it lasts more than a day, call your healthcare provider to make sure there isn’t something else going on.
